Violin plots

vio plots rich v poor.png

The violin plots above describe the summary statistics of voters feelings toward poor people and toward rich people. One can see that voters in general hold strong feelings toward poor people. On the other hand, one can see that voters generally hold neutral / slightly strong feelings toward rich people. The violin plots not only provide basic summary statistics including the minimum, maximum, and mean, but also they provide more detail into the skew of the sample of voters. One can easily look at the violin plots and see where a majority of voters stand on each scale.

(What is skew? It's actually a technical term, we haven't gone over it much, but you should look it up and push yourself to use it precisely if you find yourself wanting to write it! Or maybe we'll just go over it in class, we probably should have...)

The following image is a scatterplot which represents the correlation between voters with strong feeling toward people on welfare and those with strong feeling toward poor people. One can see that there is a positive correlation between the factors. This leads one to believe that those voters who have strong feelings toward people on welfare also have strong feelings toward poor people.
